World Theatre Day Countdown 2025
World Theatre Day - March 27th
World Theatre Day is an international observance celebrated annually on March 27th. It was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) and is celebrated by ITI centres and the international theatre community. The day aims to raise the importance of theatre arts, to share the joy and passion for theatre with others, and to highlight the role of theatre in mutual understanding and peace between cultures.
The International Message
Each year, a figure of world stature in theatre or a person outstanding for their heart and spirit is invited by ITI to write the International Message for World Theatre Day. This message is translated into more than 50 languages, read for tens of thousands of spectators before performances in theatres throughout the world, and printed in hundreds of newspapers.
Global Celebrations and Events
On World Theatre Day, theatre organizations, schools, universities, and theatre lovers around the world organize various events to celebrate the occasion. These may include theatre performances, workshops, discussions, festivals, and special programs that showcase the diversity and power of theatre. The day is a platform to reflect on the art form and its ability to entertain, educate, and inspire.
