The Lahore Resolution (1940)
On March 23, 1940, the All-India Muslim League passed the Lahore Resolution, which demanded the creation of separate homelands for Muslims in the northwestern and eastern regions of British India. This resolution is considered a pivotal moment in the Pakistan Movement, ultimately leading to the creation of Pakistan in 1947.
Adoption of the First Constitution (1956)
Sixteen years after the Lahore Resolution, on March 23, 1956, Pakistan adopted its first constitution, officially becoming the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. This marked the transition from a dominion within the British Commonwealth to a sovereign republic.
