International Dance Day Countdown 2025
International Dance Day - April 29th
International Dance Day is a global celebration of dance, created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO. It takes place every year on April 29th, the anniversary of the birth of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727–1810), the creator of modern ballet.
Promoting Dance Across the World
The day aims to promote the participation and education of dance in all sectors of society. ITI believes that dance is a universal language that can cross political, cultural, and ethnic barriers, bringing people together in peace and friendship. International Dance Day is a call to celebrate dance, to revel in the universality of this art form, to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers and bring people together through the common language of dance.
The International Dance Message
Each year, a prominent figure in the world of dance is selected to write a message that is circulated globally. This message often reflects on the importance of dance, its role in society, and its power to communicate and inspire. The message is a key part of the International Dance Day celebrations around the world.
Global Events and Activities
On April 29th, dance companies, schools, organizations, and enthusiasts around the world organize a wide variety of events to celebrate International Dance Day. These may include dance performances, workshops, open classes, festivals, and community dance projects. The day is an opportunity to showcase the diversity of dance forms and to encourage more people to experience the joy and benefits of dancing.
