Bangladesh Independence Day Countdown 2025
Bangladesh Independence Day - March 26th
Bangladesh Independence Day, also referred to as National Day, is a national holiday celebrated on March 26th in Bangladesh. It commemorates the country's declaration of independence from Pakistan in the early hours of March 26, 1971. This declaration marked the beginning of the Bangladesh Liberation War.
The Liberation War of 1971
The declaration of independence came amidst a period of intense political unrest and suppression following the 1970 Pakistani general election, in which the Awami League, led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, won a majority but was prevented from forming the government. The military crackdown on civilians on March 25th and 26th, 1971, led to the formal declaration of independence and a nine-month-long liberation war.
